South Georgia Tech designated a “Purple Heart Technical College”
South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) was named one of 22 Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) colleges who adopted a resolution honoring the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the United States service men and women. TCSG is the first technical college system in the nation to have this designation.
The mission of the Military Order of the Purple Heart is to foster an environment of goodwill among the combat wounded Veteran members and their families, promote patriotism, support legislative initiatives and, to never forget.
The resolution states that the TCSG State Board and its 22 college presidents proudly proclaim honor to be recognized as Purple Heart Technical College and was signed by all TCSG college presidents, including South Georgia Tech’s Dr. John Watford.
“South Georgia Technical College is honored to be able to play tribute to all service men and women and especially those who have received the Purple Heart,” said SGTC President Dr. John Watford. “We focus on treating everyone with dignity and respect, but we are especially honored to support those who selflessly serve and sacrifice to protect our nations freedoms.”
The resolution states that by supporting those who serve, TCSG’s system colleges will build stronger communities and a stronger workforce while providing a great atmosphere for learning and awareness across the state of Georgia.
South Georgia Technical College and the other 21 technical colleges associated with the Technical College System of Georgia, has a dedicated military point of contact who directly supports military and Veteran student populations. South Georgia Technical College is also designated as Military Friendly College.
The mission of South Georgia Technical College, a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia, is to contribute to the economic and workforce development of Sumter, Schley, Macon, Marion, Crisp, Taylor, and Webster Counties through quality technical and continuing education, adult education, and business and industry services. The college offers over 200 associate degree, diploma, and technical certificate of credit programs of study.
