June 18, 2019
Heidi Goodman of RESA joined Nancy Fitzgerald from South Georgia Tech and Jenna Rhodes of RESA in helping students construct a Pringle Tower.

South Georgia Technical College has finished the first day of a FREE three-day STEM camp for high school students in grades 9 through 12 at the Crisp County Center on North Midway Road. Students can still sign up for day two and three by contacting Nancy Fitzgerald at nfitzgerald@southgatech.edu or 229-931-2508.

Students participated in a Pringle challenge using engineering skills to build a tower from Pringle chips. They also visited the South Georgia Technical College medical assisting program and worked with students learning to draw blood, test for pulse and heart beats, take blood pressure, and learned how to wrap wounds. Later in the day, the students joined in Build a Movement and did a Stop Motion/Green Screen video.

On the second day, students will go to the welding department to build bristle bots, they will do a Claymation exercise and film on a green screen, learn to fly drones, and do bowling with Edison Robots. The final day of the camp will consist of an obstacle course for drones, a campus tour, movie, culinary arts activities, foldascopes, little bits, Makey Makey, Edison Robots, Nao Robot, Snap Circuits, Jimu Robots, and Drone coding activities.

A second STEM camp will be held on the Americus campus July 16th – 18th for students in grades 6th – 8th. For more information about the South Georgia Technical College STEM Camps contact Nancy Fitzgerald at nfitzgerald@southgatech.edu or 229-931-2508.
