Area high school students and members of the community had the opportunity to learn more about South Georgia Technical College and its Crisp County Center campus during its “Spring Take-Off” event held at the Cordele Community Clubhouse recently.

“Spring Take-Off” is a one-day event that allows South Georgia Technical College instructors to leave their classrooms and come to the community to show off their different programs as well as share some of the amazing admissions, financial aid, GED, and support services offered at South Georgia Tech in Cordele and in Americus.

The event was set up like a college fair in the Cordele Community Clubhouse with tables and displays, manned by one or two people who shared information and freebies with high school students and community members interested in learning more about South Georgia Tech. Individuals who filled out applications had the $25 registration and admission fee waived.

More than 150 individuals from around the area were able to visit the booths representing each program area, talk with instructors, watch live demonstrations and participate in simulations.

In addition to the program areas being represented, staff members from the financial aid department, bookstore, career services, dual enrollment and other offices were present to answer questions and inform students of the opportunities available at SGTC. The admissions team was also on hand to assist students in filling out applications.

A hotdog lunch was served by the Culinary Arts department in tents outside. There was also a South Georgia Technical College Commercial Truck Driving rig, a Driver’s Education Car and more outside the clubhouse for individuals to enjoy.

Individuals who visited and secured five signatures from South Georgia Tech employees were presented with a free SGTC “Track It Wrist Fitness” bands.
