South Georgia Tech named 6th best college in Nation for Computer, Appliance Repair

South Georgia Technical College was named as the sixth best college in the nation for Computer and Appliance Repair degree programs for 2017-2018 by Schools.com. The rankings were based on in-state graduation tuition and fees, graduation rate, accessibility, institutional spending, student-to-faculty ratio, size of program, and other information.
“We are very pleased to be ranked by Schools.com as one of the best colleges in the nation for Computer Repair programs,” said South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford. “This speaks volumes about the quality of our faculty and staff, program curriculum, and the graduates that we place in the workforce.”
President Watford also congratulated Vice President for Academic Affairs David Kuipers, Academic Dean for the CIS programs Dr. Andrea Oates and instructors Andrea Ingram and Randy Greene for their work in this program area. “Instructors and support staff are extremely important to the overall success of an academic program and I would like to congratulate each of these individuals for their hard work in helping South Georgia Technical College earn this distinction,” said Dr. Watford.
South Georgia Technical College was selected as the Best Community College in Georgia twice in 2017 as well as ranked as the leader in the nation in Culinary Arts degree programs for 2018 for both two-year and four-year colleges.
“Obviously, we are honored by these accolades,” continued President Watford. “Our mission is workforce development education and these rankings verify that we are accomplishing that goal. Schools.com ranked us on distinct metrics compiled by IPEDS and the National Center for Education Statistics. They compared data from South Georgia Tech against data from colleges across the nation and found that our students are excelling. That is good news for the college, the current students, and future students.”
Schools.com is a website that rigorously analyzes data from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and ranked dozens of institutions on eight distinct metrics of student support, engagement and success. Schools.com also used data from Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), which is run by the U.S. Department of Education. They looked at graduation rate, in-state undergraduate tuition & fees, accessibility, institutional spending, student-to-faculty ratio, flexibility, size of programs, and related subjects.
Sierra College from Rocklin, California was the top ranked college in the U.S. in this program area. They were the second most affordable college among the top ten and were a leader in the flexibility with a high number of weekend and evening classes available. Only three other colleges reported a higher percentage of students enrolled in online courses. Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, CA was listed as the second best college in the nation in Computer Repair and Eastern Arizona College was ranked third in the nation.
Three other Technical College System of Georgia Colleges, in addition to South Georgia Technical College were listed in the top 10 categories. Albany Technical College was ranked 4th, Oconee Fall Line Technical College was fifth, South Georgia Tech was sixth, and Athens Technical College was 10th in the nation. The other ranked colleges included: Western Wyoming Community College at 7th, American River College at number eight, and Bates Technical College in Tacoma, Washington was listed as ninth.
