South Georgia Technical College officials met with members of the Bethesda Youth Leadership Institute (BYLI) group recently to share information about the college and leadership opportunities in the workplace. The Bethesda Youth Leadership Institute group consisted of a group of 14 youth, ages 14-18.
The participants went to three different presentations on the South Georgia Technical College Americus campus. Vicki Austin, South Georgia Technical College’s High School Coordinator, spoke to the group first and talked about the overall decision-making process, a decision-making method, and gave them a list of valuable steps taken in career decision-making.

The second session was led by Cynthia Carter, South Georgia Technical College’s Director of Career Services and Student Organizations. She spoke about the definition of a career path and what makes a career path, ways to find a career path and showed them how to find opportunities to explore different types of careers.

Deo Cochran, SGTC’s Career Advisor, Testing Coordinator, and Retention Specialist, hosted the third session. She administered the Career Assessment test to help the participants have an understanding of the desires, interests and competencies needed for different career opportunities.
