South Georgia Technical College Observes Red Ribbon Week

South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) recently held a series of events and competitions to mark Red Ribbon Week and Halloween. Red Ribbon Week is a national campaign every year from October 23 – 31 to support our nation’s families and communities in nurturing the full potential of healthy, drug free youth. Events for the week included “Wear Red Day”, “Team Spirit Day”, a door decorating contest, and a costume contest.

Registrar Kari Bodrey won first place in the door decorating contest for SGTC offices. The Economic Development Office took second place, and the SGTC Business Office earned third place.  In the Programs category, Cosmetology won first place, and Practical Nursing came in second.

Judges for the door decorating competition were Sgt. Eric English, Americus PD; Capt. Jay Lewis, Sumter County Sheriff’s Office; and Jennifer English, E911 Center Director.

In the costume contest, Cosmetology again took first place in the student category with the students wearing coordinated witch costumes. Second place was awarded to Anthony Jenkins of Americus for his phantom costume. Garrett Murphy of Moreland, GA placed third dressed as SGTC Heavy Equipment instructor Don Rountree.

In the SGTC faculty/staff category, Vice President of Student Affairs Eulish Kinchens, Administrative Assistant Audra Ekkel, and Student Affairs Assistant Terrie Smith won first place for their peanut butter and jelly sandwich costume. Heavy Equipment instructor Kyle Hartsfield earned second place dressed as golfer Payne Stewart.

Judges for the costume contest were SGTC Director of Business and Industry Services Paul Farr, Reverend Wendy Peacock of Fellowship Baptist Church, and Barbara Watford, educator and wife of SGTC President Dr. John Watford.
