Eligible students may have nearly 100% of their tuition covered at South Georgia Technical College for Fall Semester 2016 if they choose to enroll in one of 12 programs offered as part of Georgia Governor Nathan Deal’s existing Strategic Industries Workforce Development Grants (SIWDG).  Classes begin August 15th and a special registration is planned for Thursday, August 11th at both the Americus and Crisp County campuses.       The Strategic Industries Workforce Development Grants (SIWDG) qualify for up to $500 in additional HOPE Grant funds for Diesel Equipment Technology, Early Childhood Care and Education, Electronics Technology, Industrial systems Technology, Machine Tool Technology, Medical Coding, Networking Specialist, Nurse Aide, Phlebotomy Technician, Practical Nursing, and Welding and Joining Technology programs.  Commercial Truck Driving students can earn up to $1000 in extra HOPE financial aid funds.       To be eligible for the Strategic Industries grant, students must first qualify for and be receiving the Hope Grant. The two grants together will cover all tuition in these programs of study. Students will still be responsible for student fees and any equipment necessary, although in some cases, additional financial aid is available for those as well.        Students must be a Georgia resident, graduated from a Georgia High School or earned a GED and have a 2.0 grade point average to be eligible for the HOPE grant.  Additional qualifications include not already having a bachelor’s degree.        South Georgia Technical College also provides the use of textbooks at no charge to its students each semester.  Students may have to pay standard fees and purchase tools, uniforms, or workbooks for specific programs.        Students who earn and maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade point average also can qualify for the Zell Miller Grant which provides full tuition for any diploma program.  They can also receive the additional financial assistance from Georgia’s Strategic Industries Workforce Development Grant (SIWDG).        Fall semester begins Monday, August 15th, but interested students can apply, test, and register now.  A special orientation and registration day is set for August 11th with sessions beginning at 9:30, 1:30 and 5:30 in Americus and 9:30 and 5 p.m. in Cordele.  For more information contact the admissions office at 229-931-2760 in Americus or 229-271-4040 in Cordele.
