Southwest Georgia STEM Charter Students Participate in Job Shadow Program at SGTC
South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) recently welcomed six high school students from Southwest Georgia STEM Charter School in Shellman, GA to its Americus campus as part of the college’s Job Shadow Program. The participating students—Richard Swick, Luis Garcia, Taraveis Bivins, Tarvaris Bivins, Tucker Osting, and Jartorreion Greene—were given the opportunity to explore career paths in several technical program areas.
The students participated in job shadowing experiences in Welding, Diesel Equipment Technology, Precision Machining and Manufacturing, and Air Conditioning Technology. Each program offered hands-on insight into real-world industrial environments and highlighted the practical applications of classroom instruction.
The Job Shadow Program at SGTC is designed to introduce high school students to technical education through structured, supervised observation. Students engaged with skilled instructors and technicians, observed industry-specific practices, and learned about safety procedures, workplace expectations, and career opportunities in the skilled trades.
The program was made possible through collaboration with the Southwest Georgia STEM Charter School leadership team, including School Leader Ginger Almon and Assistant Principal Courtney Greenway, along with SGTC faculty and staff.
While not a substitute for formal training or employment, the Job Shadow Program helps students make informed decisions about their futures by providing valuable exposure to high-demand career fields and technical education pathways available at SGTC.
