South Georgia Technical College Business Technology Instructor Annita Carter Barron announced that she would retire with nearly 30 years of service to students at South Georgia Technical College and Georgia Southwestern State University. Her official retirement date is January 1, 2019.
South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford recognized Annita Cater Barron for her faithful service to SGTC at the December faculty and staff meeting and congratulated her on achieving this new status in her life. He also presented Mrs. Barron with a plaque that included the South Georgia Technical College logo with the words, “Presented to Annita Barron, in appreciation for your 25 years of faithful service to South Georgia Technical College.”
Annita Carter Barron began her career with Georgia Southwestern State University on August 1, 1989 and transferred to South Georgia Technical College on October 1, 1994. Her letter of transfer information from GSW included this statement, “Congratulations, you are getting a fine lady, and we shall certainly miss her.”
Those were the same sentiments that President Watford shared when he presented Annita Barron with her plaque and talked about the impact that she had on the students in the business technology program at South Georgia Technical College for the past 25 years. “I can remember when Mrs. Barron joined the South Georgia Tech faculty,” said Dr. Watford. “At that time I was teaching in the Computer Information Technology program and she was hired to teach Business Technology and also help with the overflow in the CIS department. I enjoyed working with her then and I wanted to tell her how much we appreciate her and all that she has done to help students for the past 25 years here at South Georgia Tech.”
In a parting email to the SGTC faculty and staff, Mrs. Barron wrote, “I have many fond memories at South Georgia Tech and so many warm colleagues that I will never forget. So many changes these eyes have seen. Light Up Your Future, Spring Fling, Basketball Tours, Tech Force – I’ve enjoyed them all. Oh, last but not least was Registration Day, just waiting for students to come my way.”
She added that “on graduation day, I would feel a little melancholy. But this is not a goodbye or farewell or so long, I’m just ending this verse to a well-played song. Let’s just say ‘See ya later,” keep it short and sweet. It has been a pleasure so until we meet . . . May the Lord bless and keep you.’”
Annita Carter Barron earned an associate of science degree in Office Administration from Albany Junior College in Albany, Georgia. She then came to Georgia Southwestern State College in Americus and earned a bachelor of science in Administration and later a master of science in Administration-Management from there as well.
