Campus Safety Jets win SGTC Intramural Basketball challenge
Only two points decided the winner of the South Georgia Technical College Student Affairs basketball tournament that pitted SGTC Police Chief Calvin Hodge and the Campus Safety Jets against Vice President of Student Affairs Eulish Kinchens and the Student Affairs Jets.
The SGTC Campus Safety Jets captured the Intramural Basketball Tournament title after taking a narrow 44 – 42 win over the Student Affairs Jets in a game filled with controversial calls, technical fouls, and lots of good ole fashioned basketball fun.
The members of Chief Hodge’s winning Campus Safety team were: Zycamron Currington, Chanze Hill, Jameron Green, Kenneth Pough, Zey’Trevion Milton, Jakavian Moore, and Martravius O’Neal. The players for Vice President’s Kinchens team included: Kamarion Campbell, Zion Pitts, Jeremiah Poole, Jayden Terry, Jalen Johnson, Donovan Ward, and Rashaad Grayer.
SGTC students signed up to participate in the intramural basketball tournament and then the two teams were selected based on a draw. Each coach drew a players’ name in an effort to help keep the two teams competitive. That worked because six points was the largest lead of the entire 40-minute contest and that was soon erased with a successful three-point shot.

Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs Joshua Curtin had the final say on controversial calls or questions.
Chief Hodge’s Campus Safety team scored first and had a five-point lead with 13:31 remaining in the first half. But in the next five minutes, Vice President Kinchens’ team staged a comeback and pulled ahead 17 – 16 with 8:46 remaining in the half.
Her team went ahead by a many as six points with 1:54 left in the first half and were still up 28 – 23 at half-time. They kept the lead until Chief Hodge’s team pulled ahead 30 – 29 with 16:14 remaining in the game.
The two teams either tied or swapped leads over the next 12 minutes. Chief Hodge’s team pulled ahead 43 – 41 with 3:42 remaining. Vice President Kinchens team tied the game at 43 – 43 but a late walking call negated the basket that would have tied the game at 43 – 43.
Both teams were able to come up with a successful free throw in the last three minutes due to technical fouls and that allowed the game to end with Chief Hodges team taking the championship win in a 44 – 42 battle. Both teams are asking for a rematch before the end of the semester.
