Central Georgia Tech defeats SGTC Lady Jets, 87 – 81

MACON, Ga.  –  The South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets were down 30 – 17 at the end of the first quarter against Central Georgia Technical College and despite a great second quarter, the Lady Jets fell 87 – 81 in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) conference match-up.

   The Lady Jets dropped to second place in the GCAA with a 4 – 2 record.  They are 9 – 12 overall.  Central Georgia Tech is currently in fourth place with a 3 – 3 conference record.  They are 12 – 6 on the season.  East Georgia State College is in first place with a 5 – 1 performance.  Andrew College is in third place with a 4 – 3 record.  Albany Tech is in fifth place (4 – 4) and Southern Crescent Tech is in sixth (0-7) place.

   The Lady Jets did battle back from that 13-point deficit at the end of the first 10 minutes by outscoring Central Georgia Tech 27 – 16 in the second quarter to go into the half, down 46 – 44.  However, Central Georgia Tech rebounded in the third quarter outscoring the Lady Jets 23 – 21 to roll into the final quarter up by four points.  Another strong quarter by the Lady Titans left South Georgia Tech with the six-point loss.

   The two team’s stats were almost identical except that Central Georgia Tech took 84 shots from the field compared to the Lady Jets 68.  The Lady Titans hit 38% of their attempts from the field while SGTC made 42.6% but those 16 extra shots gave them the edge.  Both teams made six three-point attempts and 17 free throws.  SGTC missed nine free throws and Central Georgia Tech missed 10.

   Freshman Ja’Niya Broome led the Lady Jets in scoring with 27 points.  She also had eight rebounds, one assist and two steals.  Sophomore Taja Bennett followed with 22 points and she led the team in rebounds with 12.  She had one steal and one blocked shot.

   Candice Ganga, a freshman point guard, and Jaidyn Elam, a sophomore guard, were both in double-digits as well.  Ganga had 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals and Elam came up with 12 points, seven rebounds, one assist, three steals, and three blocked shots.  Jada Jones closed out the scoring for the Lady Jet with seven points.

   Central Georgia Tech had five players in double-digits.  Laterria Green led the Lady Titans with 26 points, Aven Sasser had 18 points, TyLeishiay Latimore and Aryana Thomas both added 13 points and then Gracie Byford came away with 12 points.

   The Lady Jets hope to return to their winning ways tonight (Monday, Feb. 9, 2026) when they travel to Albany to face Albany Tech in a double-header with the Jets.  The Lady Jets open up at 5:30 p.m. and the Jets will follow at 7 p.m.

   Both the Jets and Lady Jets will be on the road on Wednesday, February 11th when they travel to Central Georgia Tech for a conference double-header at 5:30 and 7 p.m.  Then they will return home for a rematch with East Georgia State College with games at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
