Crisp County Fifth Graders Explore STEM and Career Pathways at SGTC’s Crisp County Center
Two additional groups of fifth-grade students from Crisp County Elementary recently visited South Georgia Technical College’s Crisp County Center in Cordele for a day of hands-on learning and exploration. The events were held in partnership with Chattahoochee-Flint RESA to introduce students to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) concepts and other career pathways offered at SGTC.
During their visit, students participated in interactive learning sessions led by SGTC instructors. EMT Instructor Brittany Bertelson, Medical Assisting Instructor Carol Cowan and their students demonstrated basic CPR techniques and discussed the importance of emergency response skills. Students also explored introductory electricity concepts by assembling simple circuit boards. Additional activities included creating friendship bracelets, as well as baking chocolate chip cookies under the guidance of Culinary Arts Instructor Johnny Davis, reinforcing creativity, measurement, and teamwork.
The visits are part of SGTC’s continued outreach efforts to spark early interest in technical education and career opportunities through engaging, age-appropriate experiences that connect classroom learning to real-world applications.
