South Georgia Technical College is hosting an “Earn as You Learn” event today in the Odom Center for students to come by and determine their progress toward technical certificate of credits (TCC) earned within their field of student.

SGTC Registrar Kari Bodrey, Registrar Assistant Shonda Boddie, Special Populations Coordinator Jennifer Robinson will meet with students to determine if they have already earned TCCs or are in progress to earn one by the end of Spring Semester.

Once the determination is made, students will be able to go on line and download the TCC.  Instructors are encouraged to send students by between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.   A Technical Certificate of Credit (TCC) is designed to meet a specific education need to prepare students or update their skills, for the workforce.

SGTC Registrar Assistant Shonda Bodie is also working with SGTC students to help them determine if they are eligible for a TCC in their program area.

A TCC has a range of 9 – 39 credit hours required for completion.  Embedded TCCs are certificates that students can earn while in a degree or diploma program.  Students cannon directly enroll into an embedded TCC program.  Technical Certificate of Credit may require a combination of general education, occupational courses, and and/or approved elective courses.

The programs eligible for embedded TCC’s include:  accounting, air conditioning technology, aircraft structural technology, auto collision repair, automotive technology, aviation maintenance technology, avionics maintenance technology, barbering, business technology, culinary arts, criminal justice technology, computer support specialist, cybersecurity, diesel equipment technology, drafting technology, early childhood care and education, electrical construction/Systems technology, horticulture, industrial mechanical/systems technology, marketing management, medical assisting, motorsports vehicle technology, networking specialist, precision machining and manufacturing, and welding and joining technology.

This event is being held in an effort to help with retention and increase the SGTC graduation rate.  It also supports the SGTC QEP SMART Goals initiative to make sure that students are aware of their progress from TCC to diploma to degree.
