Georgia Power Local Manager Don Porter presented a donation from the Georgia Power Foundation to the South Georgia Technical College Foundation 2018 TechForce annual fund drive recently.  South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford and SGTC Foundation Executive Director Su Ann Bird accepted the donation on behalf of the foundation.

“We would like to thank Don Porter and Georgia Power Company for this donation to the South Georgia Technical College Foundation,” said SGTC President Dr. John Watford.  “This is a valuable partnership.  Georgia Power’s support of the foundation and our college is very important.  We appreciate what they have done and continue to do for the college, the faculty, staff, and most importantly, our students.”

The mission of the South Georgia Technical College Foundation Board of Trustees is to support the mission of the college; to promote the college within the designated counties in the service area and the state at large; to serve as advisors in the advancement of the college; and to plan and implement resource development activities.

The Foundation accomplishes this mission by improving opportunities for more students to attend college through scholarships and other forms of financial assistance, procuring special equipment, upgrading physical facilities and improving the programs and recognition of the college.

The Foundation’s TechForce 2018 annual fund drive theme is “Supporting Success at South Georgia Technical College.”  The goal of the fund drive is to provide scholarships for deserving and financially disadvantaged students on both the Americus and Crisp County Center campuses and textbooks at no cost for students.  The fund drive will also provide state of the art equipment for the Aviation Maintenance Technology, Electronics Program, and Commercial Truck Driving Program.

Porter also serves on the South Georgia Technical College Board of Directors and thanked Dr. Watford and the entire South Georgia Technical College faculty and staff for allowing Georgia Power to use SGTC as a staging area during the Hurricane.  “On behalf of everyone at Georgia Power, I would like to thank South Georgia Tech for allowing us to use your campus as a staging area.  It was a tremendous help and it allowed us to be more responsive to the communities and individuals without power during that storm.”

Individuals or businesses who would like to make a tax-deductible contribution to the South Georgia Technical College Foundation may send donations to P.O. Box 6102, Americus, Georgia 31709.  For more information about the TechForce drive or endowing a scholarship fund in honor or in memory of a loved one, contact SGTC Foundation Executive Director Su Ann Bird at 229.931.2110.
