The South Georgia Technical College Crisp County Center in Cordele recently recognized several students for outstanding work in their respective programs. Hannah Weaver of Rochelle, a marketing management student, was named the overall fall 2019 Student of Excellence for the SGTC Crisp County Center.

Weaver was nominated by Karen Bloodworth, marketing management and accounting instructor. “Hannah’s work ethic is exceptional and she is driven to keep her ‘A’ average throughout her college years,” Bloodworth stated. “Hannah is striving to be on the President’s list each semester.”

Bloodworth also noted that “Hannah was anxious at first about her college classes and had reservations about whether she should be attending college, especially with 4 children and 3 step-children to care for.“

Wanting to set a good example for her children, Weaver enrolled at SGTC Fall of ‘18 in the Marketing Management program.  Upon completion of her diploma requirements, she plans to enroll in the degree program in Marketing Management.

In addition to excelling in her coursework, Weaver is active in Phi Beta Lambda as an officer, a member and an officer of NTHS and SGA. She recruits students to become active in these clubs and assists with the community service projects that each club sponsors.

With her husband, Joe, Weaver has a business building and selling indoor and outdoor furniture.  The Marketing Management program at SGTC has helped Weaver learn how to better market the family business.

After introductions and short speeches from the other nominees and their nominating instructors, Weaver was announced as the winner and accepted her commemorative plaque and a $50 check from SGTC Dean of Enrollment Management Julie Partain. In addition to the plaque and the monetary reward for winning, Weaver received a congratulatory letter from SGTC president Dr. John Watford and a “Student of Excellence” t-shirt.  Her name was also engraved on a perpetual plaque that is displayed in the front lobby of the Crisp County Center.

In accepting the award, Weaver thanked Bloodworth for her support and encouragement. “When I first met Ms. Bloodworth,” Weaver said, “she told me I could succeed, and that stuck with me.” Weaver also thanked two other teachers, Teresa Jolly and Randy Greene, for all of their encouragement.

Twice during each semester, instructors in different program areas on the Cordele campus nominate one student from their program who has exhibited high standards academically, socially and professionally. After nominations are submitted, a committee of SGTC staff members use a point system to determine the winner. Points are awarded for GPA, work ethics, involvement in student organizations and other factors.
