Jets and Lady Jets sweep Andrew College
The South Georgia Technical College Jets secured a 93 – 73 victory over Andrew College Saturday to remain in a three-way tie for first place in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) conference with South Georgia State College and Albany Tech. The Lady Jets opened with a 92 – 76 victory over the Andrew College Lady Tigers in the first game of the double-header to make it a complete sweep.
The Jets are now 2 – 0 in the GCAA and 7 – 6 overall. The Lady Jets are currently 2 – 2 and in a tie for third place with Albany Tech in the GCAA and 9 – 7 on the season. Central Georgia Tech and East Georgia are currently in first and second place in the women’s standings with unbeaten 4 – 0 and 3 – 0 records.
Mio Sakano,13, led the Lady Jets in scoring against the Andrew College Lady Tigers. She had 22 points.
The Lady Jets opened the afternoon with an impressive 25 – 5 first quarter against the Andrew College Lady Tigers. Andrew bounced back in the second quarter to outscore the Lady Jets 23 – 20 to close the gap to 45 – 28 at the end of the first half.
The Lady Jets rallied in the third quarter to score 28 points while holding Andrew to 22. A strong fourth quarter outscoring the Lady Jets 26 – 19 allowed Andrew to pull within 16 of the Lady Jets in the 92 – 76 decision.
Mio Sakano was the top scorer for the Lady Jets with 22 points and she was followed by Isabel Bueno who added 19 points. Vera Gunaydin and Maeva Fotsa closed out the double-digit scoring for the Lady Jets with 15 and 10 points respectively. Greta Carollo and Jessica Kailainy both tossed in nine points each and Enola Papin added eight.
In the men’s contest, the Jets and the Tigers were evenly matched in the first 10-minutes with the Jets barely up 15 – 14. But the Jets pilled on in the second part of the first half to pull ahead 52 – 31. The Jets were able to maintain that lead in the second half and captured their second consecutive conference win 93 – 73 to remain tied for first place in the GCAA.
Five Jets were in double-digits in that match-up with Israel Momodu leading the pack with 14 points. Camarion Johnson was close behind with 13 and Deonte Williams followed with 12 points. Mohand Ammad and Justin Evans closed out the double-digit scoring with 11 points each.
Jaylen Woods contributed nine points, Kaeron Foman had eight and Harley Kent and Jafeth Martinex tossed in six and five points respectively. Ryan Djoussa and Batosse Gado closed out the scoring with two points each.
Both the Jets and Lady Jets will be back in action in a double-header on Wednesday, January 17th in a conference double-header with Georgia Highlands. The Lady Jets open at 5:30 p.m. and the Jets follow at 7:30 p.m.
