Jets, Lady Jets split with Central Georgia Tech on road
Macon, GA – The South Georgia Technical College Jets moved into a four-way tie for first place in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) conference this week with an impressive 75 – 60 victory over the Central Georgia Tech Titans in Macon. The Lady Jets dropped their second consecutive conference loss to the Lady Titans, 72 – 60.
This was the Jets first game back after about a three-week holiday break and it was their first conference contest. The win propelled the Jets into a four-way tie for first place in the GCAA with South Georgia State College, Georgia Highlands College and Albany Tech. The Jets are now 1 – 0 in conference and 6 – 6 overall.
Sophomore guard Deonte Williams from Sydney, Australia, and freshman guard Camarion Johnson from Brunswick, GA teamed up to score 22 and 21 points to led the Jets to the impressive 15-point victory.
The Jets pulled ahead 38 – 28 at the end of the first half and were able to stretch that lead to another five points by outscoring the Titans 37 – 32 in the second half. Williams and Johnson were the only two Jets in double-digits but sophomore forward Ryan Djoussa came away with eight points and sophomore Mohand Ammad from Paris, France, added seven.
Israel Momodu and Daryl Bod posted four points each, Harley Kent had three points and Jafeth Martinez, Justin Evans, and Noah Barnett all walked away with two points each. The Jets were 13 of 21 from the free throw line and had 12 turnovers. They shot 44.6% from the floor and were four of 19 from the three-point line.
The Lady Jets opened the double-header and jumped out to a 20 – 14 lead at the end of the first quarter. But a disastrous second quarter that saw Central Georgia Tech outscore them 13 – 4 allowed the Lady Titans to pull ahead 27 – 24 at the half and never look back.
They continued to outscore the Lady Jets in the third quarter (20 – 16) and the fourth quarter (25 – 20) to walk away with the 72 – 60 win and hand the Lady Jets their second consecutive conference loss this season. The Lady Jets are 1 – 2 in conference and in fifth place. They are 8 – 7 overall.
Sophomore Greta Carollo from Vincenza, Italy, was the bright spot for the Lady Jets with 24 points. She was nine of 18 from the field and six of 13 from the three-point line. She also led the team in rebounds with 10 for a double-double night.
Freshman Isabel Bueno was the only other Lady Jet in double-digits with 12 points. She had four assists, three rebounds, two steals and a block. Starter Vera Gunaydin, a sophomore guard from Turkey, scored eight points and Maeva Fotsa accounted for four points. Destiny Bishop and Enola Papin closed out the scoring with three points each.
Both the Jets and the Lady Jets will be back in action, Saturday, January 13th hosting Andrew College in a double-header. The Lady Jets open against the Lady Tigers at 1 p.m. and the Jets follow in a match-up against the Tigers at 3 p.m.
