   Jon Stravelakis of Columbus, GA has been hired as a full-time English Instructor for South Georgia Technical College, announced President Dr. John Watford.  He will be teaching in-person and online English classes and will report to SGTC Vice President of Academic Affairs Julie Partain.

    “I would like to welcome Jon Stravelakis to South Georgia Technical College,” said Dr. Watford.  “Stravelakis brings over 17 years of collegiate teaching experience to South Georgia Tech and I believe he will be an asset to the college and our students.  He will strengthen the English section of the General Education faculty on both the Americus and the Crisp County campuses and will give students additional opportunities to complete core classes.”

   Stravelakis earned a Bachelor of Science in English Education from the University of Georgia in Athens, GA, and a Master of Education in English Education from Georgia State University in Atlanta. He taught English at Columbus Technical College from 2008 until now.  He also has teaching experience at Georgia Military College in Columbus.  He is a 2013 Tim Justice Award of Excellence in Technical Education, Instructor of the Year, for the School of General Studies.  He also was a Rick Perkins and Tim Justice Award Finalist in 2018.

    As an English Instructor at South Georgia Technical College, Stravelakis will be providing English course instruction to students utilizing appropriate teaching techniques under minimum supervision.  He will also be responsible for completing all documentation related to assigned courses in a timely manner.

    South Georgia Technical College is currently accepting students for Summer and Fall Semester.  Summer classes begin May 23 and it is not too late to apply.  Fall semester classes begin August 15.  An in-person orientation and registration day will be held on July 23.  SGTC offers students the “Complete College Experience” with nationally recognized academics, student activities, and intercollegiate athletics.

   SGTC has been named the Best Community College in Georgia for the past five years by two different agencies and was also recognized recently as the third best college in Georgia for Associate Degrees.
