South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford announced that Katrice Taylor, SGTC English Instructor on the Crisp County Center campus, has been named as the Admissions Coordinator for the college. She will remain on the Crisp County Center campus and will report to South Georgia Technical College Vice President of Student Affairs Eulish Kinchens.

Taylor is a graduate of Valdosta State University with a B.A. in English with emphasis in Professional Writing. She also has a Master of Public Administration from Valdosta State University and has 18 hours of graduate English courses from Bowling Green University. She has been employed at South Georgia Technical College as an English Instructor since October 1, 2009.

“I am very pleased to be able to offer this administrative position to an individual who is already very familiar with South Georgia Technical College and our students. She is an excellent instructor and has the best interests of students at heart. Now she can utilize some of those same skills while recruiting and enrolling new students at South Georgia Technical College,” said President Dr. Watford. “She is a great example of the type of dedicated, hardworking employees that we have here at South Georgia Tech. I look forward to continue working with her in this new capacity.”

Taylor will be filling the Admissions Coordinator position left vacant when Kari Bodrey moved into the Registrar position for the college, which is located on the Americus campus.

In addition to teaching at South Georgia Technical College, Taylor has also taught Public Administration classes for the University of Phoenix and worked for the Georgia State Department of Community Health in the Office of Rural Health as the Director of the Georgia Farmworker Program and the Healthcare for the Homeless Program as well as a Program Operations Specialist. She worked as a Financial Aid/Loan Counselor at Valdosta State University and was also a Public Relations Intern at VSU.

Taylor is currently serving as Vice Chair of the Dooly County Board of Education and served on the South Georgia Technical College Achieving the Dream Data Team. She was recognized recently as the National Technical Honor Society Advisor of the Month nationally. She is married to Shon and they have three boys, Tyjae, Jalen, and Jakari. She is also a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

As Admissions Coordinator, Taylor will be responsible for assisting prospective students with the admission and readmission process. She will provide information to prospective students about admissions document requirements, programs offered, testing requirements and more. She will also receive and enter applications into the student information system and counsel students on Compass scores and conduct placement exams for applicants for enrollment. Her duties will also include ensuring college and high school transcripts are submitted, verify in-state-residence; evaluate scores and/or previous academic history for admission decisions and supervise Student Affairs staff to ensure accuracy and integrity of data entry into the student information system. She will also plan and implement student recruitment activities and all other duties as assigned.

“I am very grateful to Dr. Watford and South Georgia Technical College for this new opportunity,” said Taylor. “For ten years, teaching English at the college has been my passion, and I have loved every minute of it. I am excited for this new job opportunity because I am able to showcase some of my other skills while also being able to learn new skills. I am going to miss teaching my students in the area of English, but now in this position I will be able to help students in another capacity.”

South Georgia Technical College will post a job announcement for a new English Instructor for the Crisp County Center immediately.
