Lady Jets move to 6 – 0 with win over Santa Fe College

Gainesville, FL – The South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets moved to 6 – 0 with an 82-76 win over Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, FL, Saturday. Returning sophomore guard La’Deja James led the Lady Jets in scoring with 21 points and was named Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
The Lady Jets and Santa Fe College were tied at 15 – 15 at the end of the first quarter. South Georgia Tech fell behind 39 – 35 at the end of the first half. A strong third quarter effort that saw the Lady Jets outscore Santa Fe 24 – 14 proved to be the difference in the game. The Lady Jets managed to keep that six point lead in the four quarter and capture the 82 – 76 victory.
James, a 5’8” guard from Virginia Beach, VA, had 21 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. That effort led her to being selected as the GCAA Player of the Week. James has played in all six of the SGTC games this season and is averaging 13.2 points per game and shooting 56.1% from the field. She is averaging 5.2 rebounds per game and 4.2 assists. She is an 84.6% free throw shooter and has hit 22.2% of her three point attempts. She is the only player that returned from last season for the Lady Jets.
In the win over Santa Fe, three other Lady Jets were in double figures. Sophomore transfer Camille Coleman from South Bend, IN, scored 18 points and had three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Freshman guard Kanna Suzuki from Japan and sophomore transfer center Desiree Corbin both added 11 points each. Corbin also had 11 rebounds and two blocked shots as well as one steal. Suzuki had seven assists and two steals.
Freshman point guard Trakyra Kidd came off the bench and added seven points and then freshman forward Esther Adenike from Nigeria and Houlfat Mahouchiza, a freshman forward from France, both added six points. Shaineequah Fluellyn, a sophomore transfer from Molena, GA, closed out the scoring with two points.
The Lady Jets will travel to Wadley, AL on Tuesday, November 22nd to face Southern Union Community College. The Jets and the Lady Jets will both return home to host a Thanksgiving Classic tournament. The Jets play November 25th and 26th and the Lady Jets will play on the 26th and 27th.
The Jets are scheduled to play at 4 p.m. on Friday against St. Petersburg College and then at 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 26th at 4 p.m. against the College of Central Florida. The Lady Jets will play at 6 p.m. on Saturday against Motlow State and then again on Sunday at 6 p.m. against Pensacola State.
