Lady Jets Sweep Thanksgiving Classic

The South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) Lady Jets basketball team dominated both of their games in the annual Lady Jets Thanksgiving Classic at the Hangar on the SGTC campus in Americus.

On Friday, November 29, the Lady Jets defeated the Lady Pioneers of Spartanburg Methodist College 77-57. The next day, SGTC’s women’s team downed the Florida State College at Jacksonville Blue Wave by a final score of 70-43.

Prior to the Friday game, SGTC President Dr. John Watford and Jets Booster Club President Martha Arrington presented Coach James Frey a game ball in recognition of his 200th victory as the Lady Jets’ Head Coach.

Once the action got underway, Yasiryyah Wazeerud-Din led the scoring against Spartanburg Methodist with 23 points, followed by Shamari Tyson with 15.

Moe Shida and Amara Edeh each had eight points, and Femme Sikuzani scored seven. Oumy Gueye added six, while Niya Goudelock and Sarah Lwambo contributed five points each.

Against Florida State College, Yasiryyah Wazeerud-Din and Femme Sikuzani paced the Lady Jets with 16 points apiece. Amara Edeh was close behind with 15.

Moe Shida scored eight points, Shamari Tyson added six, and Hope Butera contributed four. Veronica Charles chipped in with two points, and Niya Goudelock and Sarah Lwambo rounded out the scoring with one point each.

Following the weekend sweep, the Lady Jets record is 9-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play. The team is currently ranked 19th in the nation in the NJCAA Division I Women’s Basketball poll.

After next playing several games on the road, the Lady Jets will return home for the Holiday Classic with games against Eastern Florida College on December 29th, Cape Fear Community College on December 30th, and Shelton State Community College on December 31st.
