Lady Jets to face Tyler Texas in sweet sixteen round of NJCAA National Tournament
Lubbock, TX – The sixth ranked South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets and the11th seeded Tyler Junior College Apaches from Tyler, Texas, have two different styles of play but both are intent on moving past the sweet sixteen round of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I women’s national basketball tournament in Lubbock, Texas, when they meet tonight at 7 p.m. (CST) in the Rip Griffin Center.
The Lady Jets earned their fifth consecutive trip to the national tournament with a 22 – 3 record and earned a first-round bye. Tyler Texas received an at-large bid to the tournament but defeated Walters State from Tennessee, 72 – 60 to move into the sweet sixteen match-up against South Georgia Technical College.
“Tyler has a very good team and they are very aggressive defensively. They have some guards that can really shoot the three-pointer,” said South Georgia Technical College Athletic Director James Frey. “We will need to play well because at this level, everyone comes to play or they go home. I believe our Lady Jets are ready to play.”
The winner of the SGTC – Tyler game will advance to the elite eight round to face the winner of the third-ranked Chipola Lady Indians vs. the 19th seed Eastern Arizona team. They play at 5 p.m. before the Lady Jets take to the court.

Georgia Highlands Junior College from Rome, Georgia is also in the NJCAA national tournament with an at-large bid. The 13th ranked Lady Chargers captured a first-round win and have advanced to the sweet sixteen. They will play 14th seeded South Plains at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 21st.
