Learn to earn in eight weeks at South Georgia Technical College

    South Georgia Technical College is offering 10 different short-term technical certificate of credit (TCC) programs of study that can lead individuals into entry level positions in high demand career opportunities with an eight-week time investment.  Classes start March 8th, so apply today!

    “This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to get a head start on a pandemic proof career,” said South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford.  “Students can apply, enroll, and register for eight weeks of classes that will propel them into the career field of their choice.”

   Three different Electrical Systems technical certificate of credit programs are currently being offered as a cohort so that students can complete it in just eight weeks. Individuals can sign up for the Basic Electrical Technician program, the Industrial Wiring Technician, and Residential Wiring Technician programs.

    In the Basic Electrical Technician short-term program, students enroll in Foundation of Mathematics, Industrial Safety Procedures, Direct Current Fundamentals, Alternating Current Fundamentals, and Electrical Prints, Schematics, and Symbols classes.

   The Industrial Wiring Technician program involves a class in Industrial Safety Procedures, Direct Current Fundamentals, and Commercial Wiring I and II.  The Residential Wiring Technician includes classes in Industrial Safety Procedures, Direct Current Fundamentals, Electrical Prints, Schematics, and Symbols and Residential Wiring I and II.

   Upon completion, students are eligible for entry level employment in the Electrical Systems field.  Students can also build on these basics to expand their knowledge and earnings potentials.  Electrician apprentices begin at $10 to $20 per hour with journeymen earning $20 to $30 per hour.  Master Electricians command $40 per hour and up.

   In addition to the Electrical Systems program, SGTC is offering short-term certificate of credit programs in the Industrial Systems field and Culinary Arts.  Four TCC’s are available for individuals interested in Industrial Systems.  There is an Industrial Electrician program that includes Industrial Wiring, Direct Current Circuits, and Alternating Current Circuits classes.  The Programmable Control Technician TCC involves Industrial Computer Literacy, Basic Industrial TCC’s and Intermediate Industrial PLC’s classes.

   The Industrial Fluid Power Technician TCC features classes in Industrial Mechanics, Fluid Power Systems, and Pumps and Piping Systems.  Classes for the Industrial Motor Control Technician involve Industrial Motor Controls I and II and Industrial Wiring.

    The third program area that is offering the short-term training is Culinary Arts.   Students can complete the Prep Cook, Restaurant Operations Specialist and Food Production Worker TCC’s in just eight weeks.  The Prep Cook program provides students with a class in the Fundamentals of Culinary Arts, Culinary Safety and Sanitation and Principles of Cooking.

   A Food Production Worker takes classes in the Fundamentals of Culinary Arts, Culinary Safety and Sanitation, Principles of Cooking and the Fundamentals of Restaurant Operations.  The Operations Specialist program requires that students complete the Prep Cook TCC first.  Students take Fundamentals of Restaurant Operations, Contemporary Cuisine, and Principles of Culinary Leadership.
