Linda Edge is retiring after nearly 30 years of service to South Georgia Technical College.

For nearly 30 years, Linda Patrick Edge has been a constant presence on the South Georgia Technical College Americus campus volunteering to help students, faculty, and staff in her position as an Administrative Assistant.  Today, she has announced that she will be officially retiring on June 30, 2020.

“After reflecting on my tenure at SGTC, the most memorable moments that I will always cherish are witnessing the exponential growth of our students and their productivity in the workplace,” said Edge. “Since 1991, I made it my mission to nurture and inspire our students to be the best scholars and citizens the world could offer. The time has come to close this chapter in my life; however, I challenge the students to uphold the higher ideals of the SGTC mission and to always be their best.”

“Linda Edge and I have worked together for almost 30 years,” said South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford.  “I came to South Georgia Tech as an instructor about a year before she did, and then I also worked with her when I was an Academic Dean or Director and then later as the Vice President of Academic Affairs and as President.  She has always wanted what is best for the students and the college.  I am very thankful and appreciative of her dedication to our students and our community. I wish her all the best.”

Edge is a graduate of Americus High School as well as South Georgia Technical College.  She earned her Business Education Diploma from South Georgia Tech in 1982 and that education has served her well.  She was the Administrative Secretary for the Administrative Director of Habitat for Humanity International for seven years prior to returning to her Alma Mater.

She served as the Administrative Assistant to Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Robbie Latimore from 1991 to 2013.  Dr. Latimore retired in 2013 and Edge became the Administrative Assistant for Don Smith, who was the Assistant to the President for former SGTC presidents Jon Johnson and Sparky Reeves and current president Dr. John Watford.

After Smith’s retirement, Edge returned to the Academic Affairs department where she reported to Vice President of Academic Affairs David Kuipers and provided assistance to both the Academic Affairs and Maintenance departments entering payment requisitions and performing other administrative duties.

She has also assisted with organizing the Student of Excellence and the African American History programs as well as the faculty and staff and advisory meetings on the Americus campus over the past 20 years.

Linda is married to the Rev. Michael Edge of Americus and the couple have two adult children, Jasmine and Justin.
