Paris Simpson, a rising junior at Macon County High School and dual enrollment student at South Georgia Technical College (SGTC), has become the first student to complete the college’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) course for the summer semester. She completed the course before midterm. In recognition of her accomplishment, Simpson was awarded a prize basket.

The free, online course is part of SGTC’s “Ready, Set, J.E.T. (Jobs, Education, and Training)” initiative. It focuses on effective communication strategies and goal setting through S.M.A.R.T. (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound) techniques.

Simpson, who lives in Montezuma, completed the course in a single sitting and described it as both interesting and helpful.

“I learned how to communicate more and be a better listener,” she said. “That will help me in the future—especially when looking for a job and working with co-workers. It also showed me how to complete my goals and reminded me I can do anything I want to in life.”

Simpson is currently taking a business class at SGTC and plans to continue her dual enrollment in the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program in the future.

Students who complete the QEP course earn certificates that can be added to professional portfolios and used to showcase employability skills. The course is available every semester. All currently enrolled students are asked to complete the course before the end of term for their chance to earn their certificates and learn about South Georgia Technical College’s QEP.

Registration for fall semester is August 13, and classes begin August 18. Apply online today at www.southgatech.edu.
