The Computer Information Systems (CIS) advisory committee at South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) recently met in the Odom Center on the Americus campus. The committee plays an important role in advancing the CIS program by offering recommendations that help align instruction with current industry demands.

Veronda Cladd, SGTC CIS instructor, facilitated the meeting and shared updates on curriculum developments, student enrollment, community involvement, and recent accomplishments within the program. Committee members contributed valuable feedback, highlighting current trends in technology, proposing curriculum improvements, and identifying opportunities for student internships and employment. Discussions also touched on starting salaries and workforce expectations for CIS graduates.

The advisory group serves as a critical connection between the college and the tech industry, helping instructors stay informed about shifting technologies and workplace needs to better prepare students for real-world careers.

Committee members in attendance included Mike Wilson (Director of Technology, Schley County Schools), Chris Saunders (Network Engineer, NEOS Technologies), William Patterson (Network Engineer, Phoebe Putney Health System), and Jessica Miller (Director of Technology, Marion County Schools). SGTC representatives included Grant Coordinator and Director of Institutional Effectiveness Katrice Martin, Academic Dean Brett Murray, and Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Student Affairs Alecia Pinckney.
