Cara Leigh Pheil of Cordele, a member of the 2016 graduating class of Crisp County High School, was nominated and selected to receive the Crisp County High School Class of 1965 scholarship at South Georgia Technical College for the 2016 – 2017 year. The scholarship can be utilized for tuition, books, supplies, and educational tools while she continues her education at South Georgia Tech.         Alumni of the Crisp County High School Class of 1965 set up the scholarship at South Georgia Technical College as a meaningful way to give back to their community. The scholarship is awarded annually and is open to members of the current graduating class of Crisp County High School who choose to further their education at South Georgia Technical College.         Pheil has been accepted into the Medical Assisting program at South Georgia Technical College for Fall Semester 2016 and plans to attain her license practical nursing diploma. She plans to continue her education to become a Pediatric Nurse.       The new graduate of Crisp County High School has been active during her high school career. She was a member of the Crisp County FFA club, the Crisp County Young Farmers, and the Crisp County 4-H Club. She held two offices with the Crisp County FFA organization including Student Advisor and Executive Vice President. She has competed and won awards in leadership, career based, and agricultural based in the local, area, region and state FFA competitions.         “I have been giving back to the local and surrounding communities of Cordele as long as I can remember,” said Pheil. “I am so honored to receive this scholarship. I plan to be a first generation college graduate. This scholarship will help me be able to fulfill my desired goals of going to college and pursing my dream job. I would like to thank everyone who made this opportunity possible.”       Pheil, who is described as a self-motivated, determined and hard-working individual that does not give up easily, said that she strives to constantly do better and be better in academics and with her efforts in her local community.      “I am very thankful for this opportunity. My family has instilled strong values in me and I try to display them whole-heartedly in everything that I do. This is my life and I am coming out of the gate strong and this scholarship will not be squandered. It is helping me reach my goals,” added Pheil.       Pheil is the daughter of Danny and Rose Pheil of Cordele, Georgia.       The Crisp County High School Class of 65 initiated this scholarship program nearly 15 years ago when they returned to Cordele for a class reunion. They were extremely pleased and surprised to find that South Georgia Technical College had established a campus in Crisp County.         Susan Owens Stripling, along with Patti Bridges Dash and Stella Williams Bailey were the guiding forces behind the scholarship efforts. They decided to enlist the support of their classmates to establish a fund to provide assistance to students who wanted to attend South Georgia Technical College after high school graduation. The former CCHS students were successful in securing enough donations from classmates to establish a scholarship endowment fund with the SGTC Foundation
