As senior year unfolds, students face a unique set of challenges, particularly when navigating the complexities of college and scholarship applications. Cynthia Carter, Director of Career Services, urges students not to lose momentum during this critical period. Maintaining a positive attitude, grades, and work ethic is paramount, as the decisions made in senior year can profoundly impact one’s future.

Recently, South Georgia Technical College welcomed the Senior Class of 2024 from Macon County High School for a comprehensive Career Readiness event. Collaborating with Monica Harvey, CTAE Director and Assistant Principal at MCHS, Career Services organized a dynamic 4-hour session tailored to equip students with essential skills for their future endeavors. The agenda, curated by Harvey, focused on effective resume writing, mock interviews, soft skills development, and professional attire guidance.

Engaging presentations were delivered by industry experts, including Amber Batchelor, President, and CEO of the Sumter County Chamber of Commerce; Carl Reid from Telamon, discussing Mapping Career Pathways; and Charlene Pennymon, offering invaluable insights into Financial Literacy for young adults. These sessions aimed to foster healthy financial habits and empower students to make informed decisions with long-term benefits.

Key SGTC personnel also played a pivotal role in showcasing the diverse opportunities available at the college. From Admissions Counselor-Recruiter Tylen Pepito highlighting Apply to College Month to Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act Coordinator Sandhya Muljibhai discussing WIOA opportunities, the presentations underscored SGTC’s commitment to student success. Library Services Director John Wilson shed light on library resources and digital footprints, while Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs Joshua Curtin provided insights into student life and campus housing.

Workshops led by Dr. Pam Fields, College Tutor, and Tammy Hamilton, Accounting Instructor, delved into crucial topics such as job interview preparation and effective resume writing. Notably, several students had already completed their college applications for SGTC admission, reflecting their proactive approach to pursuing higher education opportunities.
