South Georgia Technical College recently hosted fifth-graders from Crisp County Elementary School (CCES) for a series of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) days at the college’s Crisp County Center in Cordele. SGTC instructors in healthcare, computers, welding, and culinary arts showcased their programs and led the visiting students in a variety of demonstrations and activities.

Stacy Stephens, Crisp County Elementary School Principal, and CCES STEM teacher Conte Burks coordinated with SGTC to highlight programs in areas related to Burks’ curriculum.

SGTC Computer Information Systems instructor Brianna Greenberg guided the young students through a coding puzzle/map in the computer lab. Welding instructor Brad Aldridge demonstrated welding techniques. Health care instructors Brandy Nipper (Practical Nursing), Carol Cowan (Medical Assisting) and Janice Hudson (Nurse Aide) along with SGTC students showed the visitors some of the basic steps required for CPR.

The students from CCES also had the opportunity to make cookies with guidance from SGTC Culinary Arts instructor Hunter Little and his students.
