SGTC Jets defeat Gordon College in GCAA meeting
Barnesville, GA – The South Georgia Technical College Jets captured a Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) win over Gordon College, 69 – 57, in Barnesville to move to 4 – 3 and into a tie for fourth place with Georgia Highlands and Gordon College in the overall standings.
This was the Jets fourth GCAA win in five outings. They are currently ranked behind South Georgia State College (7 – 0), East Georgia (5 – 3), and Albany Tech (3-2). South Georgia Tech, Georgia Highlands and Gordon College have identical 4 – 3 records. They are followed by Central Georgia Tech (2 – 5), Andrew (1-6) and Southern Crescent Tech (1-6).
Gordon College scored first and led for the first nine minutes of the first half. The Jets pulled ahead with 11:33 remaining in the half and the two teams exchanged leads for several minutes until the Jets pulled ahead and went into the half with a 35 – 28 lead.
Gordon was able to close the game to within two points with 13:01 remaining in the game but then the Jets put together several strong drives and finally walked away with the 69 – 57 victory.
Dwight Brown, a freshman forward from Conyers led the Jets in scoring with 20 points. Three other Jets were in double-digits as well. Sophomore guard Daryl Bod came off the bench and scored 16 points and he was followed by freshman forward Hendrens Bartelus who tossed in 11 points and freshman Jordon Dickson who added 10 points. Jalexs Ewing and Aiden Fitzgerald were the only other players who scored and they had four and two points respectively.
Gordon College’s Christian Burnett was the top scorer for his team with 14 points.
The Jets will travel to Griffin on Monday, February 10th to take on Southern Crescent at 7 p.m. in the Taylor Street Gym. They will return home for a double-header with the Lady Jets on Wednesday, February 12th against Central Georgia Tech. The Lady Jets open at 5:30 and the men will follow at 7:30 p.m. The two teams will then travel to Swainsboro on Saturday, Feb. 15, to take on East Georgia State College at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
