Swainsboro, GA – The South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets traveled to Swainsboro and defeated the East Georgia State College Lady Bobcats, 79 – 70 in a Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) conference match-up.

The Lady Jets were tied for first place with East Georgia State College prior to the Lady Bobcats having to forfeit a number of games due to an ineligible player.  The win Monday night combined with East Georgia’s forfeits allowed South Georgia Tech to move to 11 – 1 in the conference and claim sole possession of the top spot.

East Georgia is now 1 – 10 in the GCAA and 5 – 18 overall.  They dropped from tied for first into sixth place.  Albany Tech is now in second place with a 9 – 4 record followed by Central Georgia Tech in third place at 6 – 4.  Andrew College is ranked fourth with a 5 – 6 record, followed by Southern Crescent Tech at 2 – 9 and East Georgia at 1 – 10.

Freshman guard Ja’Niya Broome was the top scorer for the Lady Jets with 24 points and she was followed by sophomore guard Jaidyn Elam who added 20 points.  Jada Jones tossed in 12 points, Taja Bennett came away with 11 and Candice Ganga closed out the double digit scoring with 10 points.  Sephora Benth was the only other Lady Jet to score and she had two points.

The Lady Jets will be looking for their seven consecutive win Wednesday when the Jets and Lady Jets travel to Griffin to take on Southern Crescent Technical College in a double-header at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.  Then the South Georgia Tech teams will return home to face Albany Tech in the SGTC Homecoming, Alumni and Sophomore Day event on Saturday, February 28th at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.  Admission is free and the Chamber of Commerce and Imerys will be providing a free hamburger and hot dog lunch beginning at 12:15.

This is a black out event and individuals are encouraged to wear black.  SGTC will also be giving away free t-shirts while supplies last.
