South Georgia Technical College’s (SGTC) Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) chapters from the Americus campus and the Crisp County Center campus recently represented the college at PBL’s 2016 National Leadership Conference (NLC) in Atlanta. The chapters brought home a total of six awards special recognitions.     D.W. Persall of Cordele earned a fourth place win in Administrative Technology, and Racarda Blackmon of Americus teamed up with Johnny Kinchens of West Georgia Technical College to earn a fourth place finish in the Networking Design competition. Blackmon was also selected to serve as the conference intern for the duration of the conference. Alicia English of Americus earned fifth place in the Future Business Educator event, and Jasmine Mercer of Plains finished ninth in the Marketing Concepts competitive event. The Americus chapter of PBL was also recognized for the 2016-2017 Outstanding Chapter distinction.     In addition to competing at the national level, PBL members also attended the certificated Institute for Leaders two-day event, which is a focused leadership experience for chapter officers, members, and advisors. The conference prepares student leaders and members to assume their elected responsibilities and develop valuable life skills. Members also enjoyed networking with PBL members from all over the country and expressed excitement about experience gained from the conference and competitions.     The NLC draws thousands of future business leaders each year to compete in leadership events, share successes, and learn new ideas about shaping their careers through workshops and exhibits. The four-day conference is considered the pinnacle of the FBLA-PBL experience, especially those running for national office.     Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, Inc. (FBLA-PBL) is the largest career student organization in the world. Each year, FBLA-PBL helps over 200,000 members prepare for careers in business.   For more information about PBL at SGTC, contact Americus campus advisor Dr. Andrea Oates at 229.931.2705 or aoates@southgatech.edu.
