SGTC students to benefit from additional funding to the Pat (P.K.) Morgan endowed scholarship with SGTC Foundation
The South Georgia Technical College Foundation has been awarding scholarships for the past 15 years from the Pat (P.K) Morgan endowed scholarship for single parents. This scholarship was endowed in 2010 by family and friends in memory of Morgan, a long-time member of Americus and Sumter County, who worked in education for over 30 years.
Pat Morgan was 66 when she passed away suddenly from a second stroke. Her first stroke had occurred over 17 years earlier, but she continued to work with the Sumter County Schools and inspired many who knew her. She displayed a tremendous work ethic and a positive attitude even in difficult circumstances.
Additional funds were donated recently to the SGTC Foundation’s Pat (P.K.) Morgan endowed scholarship fund in memory of Pat Morgan and in honor of her daughter Tammy Morgan Powell, who retired after a distinguished career as an educator.
Pat Morgan, who was a single mother, had two children, Johnny Morgan and Tammy Morgan Powell. Johnny and his wife, Tammy, live in Charlotte, N.C., and Tammy Morgan Powell and her husband, Kevin, live here. Pat also had six grandchildren, Colton and Morgan Satterfield, and Ashton Bledsoe and Patrick, Payton and Pierce Morgan.
Funds donated to the South Georgia Technical College Foundation in memory of Pat “P.K.” Morgan have been and will be continue to be used to create scholarships for single parents attending college at South Georgia Technical College. Twelve scholarships have been awarded over the past 15 years.
“Mom was a big believer in education and she was a strong supporter of South Georgia Technical College,” said Johnny Morgan. “Probably her biggest regret in life was not finishing her education. She knew how tough it is as a single parent to provide for and raise a family, and go back to school. That is why we wanted to specify that this scholarship be for a single parent,” said Morgan.
“Pat Morgan was a friend and an inspiration to everyone who knew her,” said South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford. “We are very pleased that her family wanted to keep her memory alive with a scholarship here at South Georgia Technical College.”
The Pat “P.K.” Morgan Scholarship will assist deserving single parents from all program areas at South Georgia Tech to continue their education.
