SGTC’s Crisp County Center Student Organizations Give Back During Holiday Season
Two South Georgia Technical College student organizations on the Crisp County Center campus have sponsored campaigns this holiday season in order to give back to the community – as well as to those who are serving overseas.
The Crisp County chapters of the Student Government Association (SGA) and the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) have put together different campaigns which look to provide toys to local children in need, write holiday greeting cards to members of the armed forces and decorate a tree in honor or memory of loved ones affected by cancer.
SGA sponsored a toy drive to benefit the Adopt an Angel campaign. Students, faculty and staff members were asked to donate a new toy that would go on to be given to a community child in need. The organization accepted donations through Dec. 7, and donated two full boxes of donated toys to the local Gateway Center in Cordele.
NTHS sponsored the Holiday Mail for Heroes event and the Tribute Tree in preparation for the holiday season. Participants were asked to join in the Auditorium on Dec. 5 to participate in the Holiday Mail for Heroes event in which they were asked to sign holiday cards for service members, veterans and military families. Cards were provided by the American Red Cross for participants to sign, and will be sent to service members all around the world. Nearly 200 cards were signed.
Members of the SGTC community were also asked to visit and contribute to the Tribute Tree – a Christmas tree in the main hallway of the Cordele Campus that was decorated in purple ribbons. Participants dedicated a purple ribbon in memory or in honor of a loved one who has been affected by cancer by writing their name on a purple ribbon and hanging it on the tree.
South Georgia Technical College’s Spring Semester will begin on Jan. 10, 2018. Students may register now or during the Jan. 8 registration day event on both the Americus and Cordele campuses.
SGTC has a one-stop admissions process where students may apply, test, and register in one day.
