   South Georgia Technical College sophomore guard Jaidyn Elam of Pontiac, MI was selected as the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) Division I women’s basketball Player of the Week for February 23,2026.  This was her first time being selected.

   The Lady Jets are riding a five-game winning streak and are currently tied for first place in the GCAA with East Georgia State College.  The Lady Jets are currently 9 – 2 and 14 – 12 on the season.  The 5’ 11” guard scored 29 points and had 14 rebounds in the win against Andrew College this past weekend.

    Elam is currently ranked third in the conference in rebounds with an average of 9.6 per game over 25 games.  She is also second in the conference in free throw percentage shooting with a 74 percent success rate and second in blocks in the conference with a total of 31.  She is the third leading scorer for the Lady Jets with 300 points.

    Two other Lady Jets have shared the GCAA Player of the Week honors for the Division I women’s basketball category.  Freshman Ja’Niya Broome was selected this past week and sophomore Taja Bennett was selected three times earlier in the season. Taja Bennett was recognized as the GCAA Player of the Week three times in four weeks for January 5th, 12th, and 26th.  Joining these three Lady Jets in garnering Player of the Week honors this season were Jets Matt Mbole and Jalexs Ewing.

   Matt Mbole, sophomore center, was selected as the Men’s GCAA Division I Player of the Week for the week of February 2nd and Jalexs Ewing, sophomore guard, was the first Jets player to be selected for this honor for the week of November 10th. 

   Fans have the opportunity to see these players in action this week when the Jets and Lady Jets host Albany Tech on Saturday, February 28th for a double-header as part of the SGTC Homecoming, Alumni and Sophomore Day festivities.  This will be a Black Out event so all supporters are encouraged to come out and wear black.  The Lady Jets will play at 1 p.m. followed by the men at 3 p.m.  The sophomore players will be recognized between games around 2:30 p.m.
