   South Georgia Technical College sophomore guard Ja’Niya Broome of Hamilton, GA, was selected as the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) Division I women’s basketball Player of the Week for March 2,2026.  This was her second time being selected.

   The Lady Jets are riding an eight -game winning streak and have secured the GCAA Regular Season Conference Title for the 2025 – 2026 season.  They will host the NJCAA Region XVII end of the season tournament on Thursday, March 12th and Friday, March 13th.  Games will begin at 6 p.m. in the James S. Peters gymnasium in Americus, GA.

   The Lady Jets are currently 13 – 1 and 18 – 11 on the season.  The 5’ 9” guard averaged 23.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, two assists and 2.7 steals in three wins for the Lady Jets over the past week.  She is also ranked second in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) in scoring averaging 22.8 points per game.  She is the leading scorer for the Lady Jets with 660 points in 29 games.  She has started all 29 games for the Lady Jets.

    Elam is currently ranked third in the conference in rebounds with an average of 9.6 per game over 25 games.  She is also second in the conference in free throw percentage shooting with a 74 percent success rate and second in blocks in the conference with a total of 31.  She is the third leading scorer for the Lady Jets with 300 points.

    Two other Lady Jets have shared the GCAA Player of the Week honors for the Division I women’s basketball category.  Sophomore Jaidyn Elam of Pontiac, MI, was selected for the week of February 23rd, and sophomore Taja Bennett was selected three times earlier in the season. Taja Bennett was recognized as the GCAA Player of the Week three times in four weeks for January 5th, 12th, and 26th.  Joining these three Lady Jets in garnering Player of the Week honors this season were Jets Matt Mbole and Jalexs Ewing.

   Matt Mbole, sophomore center, was selected as the Men’s GCAA Division I Player of the Week for the week of February 2nd and Jalexs Ewing, sophomore guard, was the first Jets player to be selected for this honor for the week of November 10th. 

   Fans have the opportunity to see these players in action next week in the NJCAA Region XVII end of the season tournaments.  The Jets, which are currently ranked 3rd will host a playoff game on Tuesday, March 10th at 7 p.m. in the Hangar.  Regular season play is still continuing so the final brackets have not been released.

   The Jets will travel to Rome on March 4th for a 6 p.m. game with Georgia Highlands and then travel to Barnesville, GA to face Gordon College at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 7th.  They will return home for the region tournament game at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10th.  The winner of that game will advance to the NJCAA Region XVII semi-final round on Friday, March 13th and possibly the finals on Saturday, March 14th.

   The Lady Jets travel to Andrew College for a 5 p.m. game today, Wednesday, March 4th and then as the number one team in the conference, they will receive a by for the quarterfinal Region XVII tournament.  They will host the NJCAA Region XVII semi-finals and finals on Thursday, March 12th and Friday, March 13th.  Right now, South Georgia Tech (13 – 1) is the only team guaranteed a bye. 

   Central Georgia Tech is currently in second place at 8 – 4.  They travel to Albany Tech today (March 4th) at 5:30 p.m.  Albany Tech is 9 – 5 and in third place.  Central also travels to East Georgia on Saturday, March 7th for a 1 p.m. game.  East Georgia is currently 3 – 10.
