South Georgia Technical College’s National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) held its first meeting of 2017 recently in the Energy and Transportation Center on SGTC’s Americus campus. NTHS members discussed the organization’s upcoming events and fundraisers, including a book drive, community outreach projects, a membership drive, and fundraising activities.

NTHS members will visit the local Head Start Program on February 9th to distribute collected books from the book drive and read a book to one of the classes. The NTHS membership drive will be held on February 2nd in Hicks Hall on SGTC’s Americus campus from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to encourage students to join NTHS.

Upcoming fundraising activities for NTHS include a Penny War promoting friendly competition among SGTC’s programs of study to collect rolled pennies February 1st through April 1st. The Cupid’s Arrow fundraiser will allow students/faculty/staff to send candy grams with messages of appreciation, encouragement, and support on February 14th. On March 28th and March 30th a bake sale and cake raffle will take place.

NTHS members who attended the meeting included David Justin Moore of Butler; Leah Grace Windham of Oglethorpe; Linda Y. Kent of Montezuma; Annie Streeter of Americus and Tonya Barrett of Ellaville.
