Three computer specialist certificates offered online fall semester at South Georgia Technical College

    Looking for a great career opportunity!  Now is the perfect time to sign up for a Computer Information or Networking Specialist Technical Certificate of Credit at South Georgia Technical College.  Three different certificates can be obtained completely on-line in one semester and can help you move forward toward a great career!

   The three technical certificate of credit one-semester online options include:  Microsoft Word Application Specialist (9 credit hours), Microsoft Excel Application Specialist (9 credit hours) and Network Technician (14 credit hours).  Each of these certificates are part of the Computer Information Systems and Networking Specialist diploma and associate degree programs and are eligible for an additional $500 HOPE Career Grant award to qualified Georgia residents.

   The Microsoft Excel Application Specialist certificate consists of an Introduction to Computer Literacy class, Comprehensive Spreadsheet Techniques and one elective.  The Microsoft Word Application Specialist certificate includes the Introduction to Computer Literacy Class, Introduction to Keyboarding and Comprehensive word processing techniques.  The Networking Technician certificate includes Introduction to Computers, Computer Concepts, Operating Systems Concepts, and Computer Networking Fundamentals.

    “You can learn to earn in just one semester,” said South Georgia Technical College Computer Information Systems instructor Andrea Ingram.  “This is a great opportunity for anyone who would like a career in the computer information field or who would like to learn new skills for their present job.”

   Graduates from the SGTC Computer Information Systems and Networking Specialist program can expect starting pay from $35,000 to $45,000 per year.  According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of overall jobs in computer and information technology is expected to grow by 12 percent between now and 2028, which is faster than the average across all U.S. occupations.

   Fall semester classes start August 17th and it is not too late to apply and register.  SGTC is hosting face-to-face registration on July 21st, 22nd, and 23rd from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in both Americus and Crisp County.  Social distancing guidelines will be observed.

   Students in the SGTC Computer Information Systems or Networking programs may qualify for the HOPE Grant, HOPE Career Grant, or HOPE Scholarship or Federal PELL grant.  There are also scholarships and grants available from the South Georgia Technical College Foundation.
