Lady Jets defeat Andrew College in GCAA final regular season game
Cuthbert, GA – The South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets defeated Andrew College, 88 – 72 in their final Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) conference game for the 2025 – 2026 season. The Lady Jets captured the GCAA Regular season title for the second year in a row.
As the GCAA Regular Season Champions, the South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets will be hosting the NJCAA Region XVII tournament semi-finals and finals. The Lady Jets will play at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 12th and Central Georgia Tech will play the winner of the other quarterfinal game at 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 12th in the SGTC Hangar.
Final seeding has not been completed because several teams are finishing up the regular season. Regardless of those results, Albany Tech, Andrew College, East Georgia and Southern Crescent are scheduled to play in the quarterfinal round on Monday, March 9th. Right now, Albany Tech will face Southern Crescent and then Andrew College and East Georgia will play. SGTC will play the winner of the Andrew – East Georgia game and Central will face Albany Tech in the semi-final round.
The Lady Jets captured first place in the regular season with a 14 – 1 and 19 – 11 record. Their one recorded loss was to Central Georgia Technical College early in the conference season. Central Georgia Tech is 9 – 4, Albany Tech is 9 – 6, Andrew is 5 – 10, East Georgia is 3 – 10, and Southern Crescent is 2 – 11.
The Lady Jets jumped out to a 23 – 12 lead over Andrew College in the opening quarter and then Andrew outscored the Lady Jets in the second quarter 21 – 20. The Lady Jets were up 43 – 33 at the end of the first half. SGTC continued to slightly outscore Andrew in the second half and wound up with the 88 – 72 victory.
Five Lady Jets were in double-digits in the match-up with Andrew College and two players had 20 or more points. Freshman guard Ja’Niya Broome led the Lady Jets with 24 points on the night and she was paced by Jaidyn Elam who tossed in 20 points and led the team in rebounds with 13 for a double-double night.
Sophomore guard Taja Bennett was close behind with 19 points. Jada Jones added 14 points and Candice Ganga closed out the double-digit scoring with 11 points. Sephora Benth and Glory Kaine played but did not score.
The Lady Jets are off until Thursday, March 12th at 6 p.m. when they host the NJCAA Region XVII tournament semi-final and final.
