Head Start students were excited to choose and read the books that were donated to the program by South Georgia Tech’s National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) after their recent Book Drive.

South Georgia Technical College’s National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) of SGTC’s Americus Campus recently distributed books collected from a Book Drive to the local Head Start Program in Americus. NTHS members went to a few classrooms and let the students choose books. The books that were not personally given to the students were donated to the Programs media center.

NTHS collected new or gently used children’s books for its book drive and they were donated to local students. NTHS will be donating annually through more book drives. The members who helped distribute the books were Leah Windham of Oglethorpe, Annie Streeter of Americus, and Tonya Barrett of Ellaville.

Members of the National Technical Honor Society believe that reading is an essential part of developing and succeeding in life, and is an especially vital role in the lives of young children. Reading to children and having them read to you develops vital language skills that they will use throughout life. It can open up new ideas and different viewpoints on an array of different subjects, and can provide children with hours of wholesome fun while enhancing their social skills.
