SGTC Jets split decisions in East Georgia State Classic
SWAINSBORO, GA – The South Georgia Technical College Jets moved to 4 – 9 on the season after splitting decisions in the East Georgia State College Classic December 6th and 7th. The Jets lost to Brunswick Community College 82 – 77 in the opener and then rallied to defeat Richard Bland College 78 – 60 on Sunday.
East Georgia State College walked away as the overall winner in the East Georgia State College Classic with wins over Richard Bland (85-67) and a narrow 69 – 64 victory against Brunswick Community College to move to 3 – 7 on the season. Brunswick Community College and South Georgia Tech went 1 – 1 on the weekend while Richard Bland College finished the tournament 0 – 2.
Sophomore guard Jalexs Ewing from Augusta, GA and Marcellus Myles, a freshman guard from Thomaston, GA, led the Jets in scoring in the loss against Brunswick Community College. They both tossed in 21 points to contribute 42 of the Jets total 77 points.
The Jets got behind early and were down 50 – 36 at the end of the first half. They tried to comeback in the second half, outscoring Brunswick, 41 – 32, to close out the game down 82 – 77. Ewing and Myles were the only two Jets in double-digits.
Clark Mastin, a sophomore from Conyers, had nine points, Dwight Brown, a sophomore from Conyers, added seven points and then Jeremy Nixon and Guillaume Schoentgen added six and five points respectively. Jarius Davis and Frankie Raines contributed three points each and Jeremy Nixon closed out the scoring with two points.
In the game Sunday, the Jets jumped out to a 45 – 27 lead at the end of the first half and went on to take a 78 – 60 win over Richard Bland College. Three Jets were in double digits in that game with sophomore point guard Clark Mastin from Conyers leading the team in scoring with 20 points. Jalexs Ewing was close behind with 18 points and then Matt Mbole added 10 points and 17 rebounds to have a double-double night.
Guillaume Schoentgen followed with nine points, Marcellus Myles came up with eight points and then Jarius Davis added seven points. Frankie Raines and Marc Ferdy closed out the scoring with two points each.
The Jets are open until they kickoff the new year with a match against Northwest Florida State College in Niceville, FL on January 3rd at 3 p.m. Then they will host Central Georgia Tech on January 7th in a double-header with the Lady Jets. The ladies open up at 5:30 p.m. followed by the Jets at 7:30 p.m. in the Hangar.
