The South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets defeated the Southern Crescent Lady Tigers in a Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) conference make-up game Monday. The Lady Jets moved to 4 – 1 overall with the 98 – 53 victory. Southern Crescent dropped to 0 – 6.
The Lady Tigers actually scored first and held a narrow lead for the first five and a half minutes of the game. South Georgia Tech managed to capture a 13 – 12 lead with 3:37 left in the first quarter and then stretched that to a 19 – 16 advantage by the first quarter buzzer. The Lady Jets went up 47 – 33 at the half.
Southern Crescent came into the game with only five players and by the third quarter, fatigue began to set in. South Georgia Tech had a very strong third quarter and outscored Southern Crescent 21 – 8. In the final 10 minutes of the game, two of Southern Crescent’s players fouled out and the Lady Jets scored 30 points to the Lady Tigers 12 to capture the 98 – 53 victory.
Freshman guard Ja’Niya Broome led the Lady Jets in scoring with 34 points. She was paced by sophomore guard Taja Bennett who had 23 points and 22 rebounds on the night. Candice Ganga, a freshman point guard closed out the double-digit scoring with 19 points, four rebounds, and five assists.
Jada Jones added eight points to the Lady Jets total, Sephora Benth and Sarah Mellouk both tossed in five points and then Jaidyn Elam closed out the scoring with four points. Jade Glamory and Mikayla Jamison led Southern Crescent with 24 and 21 points respectively.
The Lady Jets are currently in second place in the GCAA with their 4 – 1 record behind unbeaten East Georgia (4-0). The Lady Jets are 9 – 11 overall and are scheduled to travel to Central Georgia Tech in Macon on Saturday, February 7 at 1 p.m. and then will travel to Albany to face Albany Tech at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, February 9th as part of a double-header with the Jets. The Titans and Jets play at 7:30 p.m.
Both teams are going to play at home on Saturday, February 14th when they host East Georgia State College in a double-header with the Lady Jets opening at 1 p.m. and the Jets following at 3 p.m.
