On-campus housing and an excellent Welding and Joining Technology program were two reasons why Jayden Slaughter of Covington chose to attend South Georgia Technical College in Americus, GA.  His aunt, Simone Slaughter, accompanied him back to campus recently for him to begin Summer classes.

He began classes at South Georgia in the Fall of 2023 and now has two semesters behind him and is looking forward to graduation and beginning a career in this industry.

“I chose South Georgia Tech because I felt it was a great environment with fun activities to help me grow, socialize and network while I learn new skills,” said Slaughter.  “I am studying Welding and Joining Technology.”

Slaughter actually transferred credits to South Georgia Technical College from Georgia Piedmont Technical College where he attended dual enrollment classes while he was still in high school.

“I heard South Georgia Tech is one of the best schools to perfect my craft.  And in my experience, it is,” said Slaughter.  SGTC is a great place to learn whether you live on or off campus.  It is a great vibe and the administration is not only friendly, but very helpful and provides an abundant amount of resources needed for students!”

South Georgia Technical College is currently enrolling students in Summer and Fall Semester Classes.  The SGTC eight-week mini-mester is getting started but it is not too late to sign up.  Classes end July 29th.  Fall Semester begins August 15 and registrations are planned for July 23 and August 13.

To apply, visit www.southgatech.edu and click on Apply at the top of the website.  For more information, contact SGTC Admissions Director Candie Walters at cwalters@southgatech.edu in Americus or Admissions Coordinator Hunter Little at hlittle@southgatech.edu on the Crisp County Center.

SGTC offers over 200 associate degree, diploma, or technical certificate of credit programs of study.  SGTC has been ranked as the top community college in Georgia for five consecutive years by two different organizations.  SGTC is one of only two technical colleges in Georgia with on-campus housing and is nationally recognized for academics, intercollegiate athletics, and student activities.
