Three South Georgia Technical College Aviation Maintenance students successfully took and passed the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe Certification tests recently.

Blake Oliver of Talbotton, Trey Hightower of Senoia, and Brandon Elliott of Senoia, received their FAA Airframe Certificates before graduation.  The FAA Airframe license certifies aviation mechanics to work on the aircraft body while a powerplant license certifies them to work on the engines.

“These students really applied themselves and studied hard during their Spring Break to get ready to take their exams and it paid off,” said SGTC Aviation Maintenance Instructor Paul Pearson.  These three students will be completing their last class in the next few weeks and also will be eligible to take the exams for the Powerplant portion of their FAA A&P Certificate.

The South Georgia Technical College Aviation Maintenance Technology program is a six-term program and intended to provide students with an introduction to the occupational area of aviation maintenance as currently understood and practiced by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) mechanic certificate holders with airframe and/or power plant ratings.

The combined power plant and airframe curriculum is designed to provide students with the technical knowledge and skills required to diagnose problems and repair aircraft power plants, both reciprocating and turbine, their systems and components; and airframes, both metal and wood, their systems and components.  Satisfactory completion of all program courses entitles students to participate in the FAA power plant and airframe examinations and certifications processes.

South Georgia Technical College is currently accepting Aviation Maintenance students for Fall Semester.  Classes start August 15.  Registration days will be held on July 23 and August 13.  SGTC is one of only two technical colleges in Georgia with on-campus housing and is the oldest aviation maintenance training facility in Georgia.

SGTC has a low teacher to pupil ratio and each of the SGTC Aviation Maintenance Instructors are former students or graduates of the program and have worked in the industry before returning to teach.

It provides students with the “Complete College Experience” and is nationally recognized for its academics, intercollegiate athletics, and student activities.  SGTC students have excelled in the SkillsUSA State Aviation competition and will be competing in the National SkillsUSA competition in Atlanta in June.
