Jets fall to Gordon State College in overtime

Barnesville, GA – It was the third straight conference loss for the South Georgia Technical College Jets when they dropped a narrow 53 – 50 overtime loss to Gordon State College in Barnesville. The Jets are currently in sixth place in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association with a 2 – 6 conference record and a 9 – 13 overall performance.

   The Jets shot 26% from the field and only hit 22.6% of their three point attempts but were still able to remain close the entire game and tie the score at 49 – 49 at the end of regulation play.  Gordon State College outscored the Jets 4 to 1 in overtime to take the 53 – 50 victory.

    South Georgia Tech was up 25 – 20 at the end of the first half, but a rally by Gordon State in the second half allowed them to outscore SGTC 29 – 24 and tie the game to force it into overtime.

   None of the Jets were in double figures.  Jordan Stephens stepped up to lead the team in scoring with eight points.  Brice Paster came off the bench to score seven points and then Tabais Long came off the bench and added six more points.

   Starters Denari Garrett, Jaylan McKinney and Jalen Reynolds and reserve Toriano Lewis each had five points and they were followed by Merdy Bata and Jarius Carroll with three points each.

   The Jets will be back in action on Saturday, February 1st when they host East Georgia State College at 3 p.m. in the Hangar as part of a double-header.  The Lady Jets open at 1 p.m.
