South Georgia Technical College Horticulture students learn about a variety of topics related to plants and this week they hosted a plant sale and also harvested fresh carrots in preparation for spring vegetable planting.

“My goal is to expose students to as many career opportunities as possible associated with horticulture,” said SGTC Horticulture Instructor Brandon Gross.  “We learn the basics about small scale food production as well as greenhouse management and landscape installation and more.  This will help them to be more well-rounded once they enter the workforce.”

The SGTC Horticulture program features short-term technical certificate of credit opportunities along with diploma and an associate of applied science degree.  Specializations include: Greenhouse Management, Landscape Installation, Nursery Production and Management, Small Scale Food Production, Horticulture Business Management, Turfgrass Management, Small Engine Repair and Maintenance.  Classes also expose students to Pest Management, plant identification, and more.

SGTC Horticulture students Arial Hudson, Cass Williams, Lisa Sellers, Kyle Davis, Mary Madrid, and Grace Hartage all participated in the carrot harvest and also help with the plant sale for the SGTC faculty, staff, and students recently.
