SGTC’s McKenzie named to Georgia Board of Cosmetology

Atlanta, GA – Governor Brian P. Kemp recently announced the appointment of South Georgia Technical College Cosmetology Instructor Dorothea Lusane McKenzie to the State Board of Cosmetology and Barbers.

   In addition to the appointment of McKenzie, Governor Kemp announced the appointment and re-appointment of 84 other Georgians to various state boards, authorities, and commissions.

    SGTC’s Dorothea Lusane McKenzie has been the owner and operator of Dorothea’s Beauty Salon for 38 years and the Cosmetology Instructor at South Georgia Technical College for 17 years.

   She is a member of the Cosmetology Advisory Board and was the 2020 South Georgia Technical College Instructor of the Year and one of the nine finalists for the State of Georgia. She has led many training courses and received numerous certifications in her field throughout her career.

   She is also trained in mortuary hair and cosmetic preparation. She earned her Master of Cosmetology license from South Georgia Technical College in 1983 and became a Master Cosmetology Instructor in 1996. McKenzie is an active member of her community and is a member of Old Corinth Missionary Baptist Church.

    “We are honored that Governor Kemp has selected SGTC Cosmetology Instructor Dorothea Lusane McKenzie for this leadership position,” said South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford.  “This is well-deserved recognition for Dorothea and it is a testament to her knowledge and expertise in the subject matter that she teaches here at South Georgia Technical College.”

   In addition to McKenzie’s appointment, Governor Kemp also appointed Catherine Jones McWhirter of Athens and reappointed Virgil Ergle, T. Kay Kendrick, Philamenia Rivers, and Amy Smith to the State Board of Cosmetology and Barbers.
