South Georgia Technical College’s Car Show a huge success

Barry Cason of Leesburg took first place in the Best in Show New from 1994 – Present Car category as well as first place in the Best Paint Job category with his 2016 Ford Mustang GT at the South Georgia Technical College’s inaugural Father’s Day Car Show recently. Thirty-five cars were on display in front of the SGTC cafeteria near South Georgia Tech Parkway. Admission was free and lunch was provided to participants and on-lookers.

   Alexander Hall of Albany was the first place winner in the Best of Show Old from 1900 to 1993 with his 1967 Chevrolet Cheval. Buddy Holloman of Americus, retired instructor and administrator at South Georgia Technical College, finished second in that category with his 1938 Chevrolet two-door sedan, and Les Kinway of Americus placed third with his 1965 Pontiac GTO.

   Philip Deese of Americus, took second place in the Best in Show for the 1994 – Present event with his 2016 Dodge Challenger/Hellcat and Michael Mathews was third in that category with his 2010 Chevrolet Grand Sport/Corvette.

   Second place in the Best Paint competition went to Jason Holloway of Ellaville and his 1957 Chevrolet 210 and Les Kinway of Americus was third in the competition with his 1965 Pontiac GTO.

    “This was a great event and we would like to thank everyone who came out and participated,” said South Georgia Technical College High Performance Engines/Motorsports Instructor Kevin Beaver. “This was a great turnout for the inaugural Father’s Day Car Show. I think everyone really enjoyed it and we had some super cars competing for the top prizes.”

   South Georgia Technical College Academic Dean David Finley grilled out and provided free lunch for the participants and onlookers at the event that was headed up by Kevin Beaver and Matthew Burks, John Deere Tech instructor at South Georgia Technical College.

   South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford and his family came out and took part in the event. “This was a great turnout and I am appreciative of the initiative and hard work that it took to pull this off. Congratulations to our instructors who put this together and for everyone that brought cars.  Everyone enjoyed seeing the cars and all the hard work that had gone into the restoration of the older cars.”

   Individuals at the car show also had the opportunity to learn more about the over 200 associate degree, diploma, and technical certificate of credit programs offered at South Georgia Technical College.

   The college is currently accepting applications for Fall Semester which begins August 13th. A registration and preview day session will be held on Wednesday, July 17th on both the Americus and Crisp County campuses.

   The preview event will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on July 17th and registration will be held at 9:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 5 p.m. in Americus and at 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the Crisp County campus.
