SGTC Jets fall to South Georgia College

WAYCROSS, GA – The South Georgia Technical College Jets dropped a heartbreaking 72 – 70 Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Conference decision to the third place South Georgia College team in Waycross recently.
That loss dropped the jets to 4 – 4 in the conference and moved them down into the fifth place spot behind Georgia Highlands, Central Georgia Tech, South Georgia College and Gordon. The Jets are now 10 – 12 overall.
Despite the narrow loss, the Jets had good point production from four players. The Jets overcame a 34 – 25 deficit at the end of the first half to pull ahead in the second half. The Jets outscored South Georgia 45 – 38 but came up two points short at the final buzzer.
Sophomore Pat Welch led the scoring effort for the Jets with 20 points. He was six of nine from the three point range and then hit another bucket to clinch the top scoring position for the Jets. Bobby Jackson was next with 12 points, Mike Boone had 11 and Ed Jones added 10 points to close out the double digit scoring.
Both the Lady Jets and the Jets travel to Marietta to Chattahoochee Tech on Wednesday, February 8th for another conference match-up. Game time is 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.
The two teams return home on Saturday, February 11th for a big conference double-header against Georgia Highlands. The Lady Jets play at 1 p.m. and the Jets play at 3 p.m. Georgia Highlands’ women are in second place in the conference behind the Lady Jets and the Georgia Highlands’ men’s team is in first place in the conference and ranked third in the nation.
All Jets fans will be admitted to the game FREE on Saturday, February 11th if they wear RED in support of the Jets and Lady Jets. Free t-shirts on a first come basis will be given away as long as the supply lasts.
